The Port Darwin Football Club held their annual Season Launch at Hotel Darwin on the 24th of March, 2018.
Included in the launch was the unveiling of our new club logo, our new major sponsor InterSystems, our new home and away MPL kits, Senior training kit and the new 2018 club polo, which were all modelled by our men’s, women’s and junior players.
Port Darwin Football Club’s committee decided to give PDFC a fresh new look and change our club logo this change would move the club into the 21st century.
The committee wanted to have a modern, fresh logo that also kept with our rich Darwin history and decided to depict something from the Bombing of Darwin, so this boat is that of the HMAS Mavie a 19-ton patrol boat operated by the Royal Australian Navy which was sunk by the Japanese in the Bombing of Darwin, you will also find our founding year ‘1996’ depicted on the new logo.
MPL coach Rory Hood spoke about the upcoming season and said ‘this season is going to be a exciting one as all of our senior teams look to build on the positives and the experiences from last season which will provide us a platform to grow as a club’.
He also spoke about that we have a new-look MPL/Reserves squad. Hood said ‘The side has been given an injection of exciting talent with those recruited including players who have been with some of the biggest clubs in Darwin’. He also touched on the hard work the squad has done in the pre-season ‘The whole squad has been working extremely hard and have just completed a 9 week pre-season schedule, we will see a much more structured and committed squad representing PDFC this MPL season’.
